I don’t know why they’re bothering. Everyone knows that the most effective method of dealing with a dangerous asteroid is to drill a hole 800 feet deep and drop a nuke into it. You have to do it when it is night or dangerous outgassing could thwart the mission

Wouldn’t it be funny if this test resulted in this asteroid being redirected and then colliding with the earth? lol

Then there is the chance that the new course caused it to hit something else(Even bigger) knocking that onto a new course that then hits earth. Think butterfly effect.

The coverage is not clear, but it appears as if a head on collision, or something close to it, is planned/intended. A closing speed of four mile per second will produce quite a kinetic whallop.

“colliding with the space rock at about 14,000 miles per hour”
Just enough to budge it in the wrong direction...

Or it could make the asteroid angry, come to Earth and ask “ alright. Who threw that?”

Got Linux? The official repository has the same thing labelled as “Maelstrom”.
And another one with superior graphics that plays similar called “Funguloids”.
Fungi is great!

Those Dimorphians ain’t a-gonna be happy. The dinosaurs tried that one time and look what happened to them.

Rocks. They could aim a rock with exterior steering rockets............
Find a rock of a proper orbit, size, balance and structural integrity, maneuver to catch up and gently dock with it, and then push it to enormous speed to crash it into the asteroid.
Methinks that will require a lot of fuel and be a lot more expensive than what they did.
