I wonder why? and also if this has changed since the 60s.
As far as I recall, AA had more intact families in the 60s than whites, but now more than 70% of AA kids are born out of wedlock.
Many of the articles I read argue that it is due to the large number of children growing without fathers — and I am inclined to believe that, but I don’t know if that is my bias showing in agreeing with that, and haven’t done more research on my own
The loss of manufacturing jobs in the cities coupled with the welfare state made many black fathers useless; the mothers could be set up by the taxpayers without them. This trend also hit blue-collar whites, but they responded differently (though today many are matching the behavior).
When the children no longer provide any benefit to the welfare sow, they are on their own - with many females following in the mothers’ steps and the males following in their fathers’ steps.
