A gold coin in the sand and beached flotsam from some shipwreck or battle. The anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto fell on 9-11 IIRC. The captains of the losing Muslim ships were executed instead of the usual receipt of ransom and return to fight again.
L.P. If the flotsam has beached is it still flotsam or is there another name for it? And does it belong to the original ship owner or to an insurer like Lloyds of London or to some pack of scavenging beachcombers that secure the beached items? (I think you had a post on this recently!)
