It’s a quick recap of Dearie’s involvement in the FISA court approval of the surveillance of Carter Page. Dearie was originally a Reagan appointee.
From the DOJ’s perspective, they may think Dearie is on their side, since he approved the original spy request.
From the Trump Team perspective, they may think Dearie realizes he was hoodwinked by the FBI, and will bend over backwards to be fair to Trump.
“Two of the four surveillance warrants granted by the secretive FISA court regarding Page have since been declared invalid — including one approved by Dearie in June 2017 — because of omissions and mistakes in the FBI’s submissions to the court.”

One must never discount Judge Cannon’s perspective: proven judge in high-profile location and FISC responsibilities are good points for the task at hand.
Just because both parties agree on the person doesn’t mean a rubber stamp from Judge Cannon.
