Glad to see another Husker fan on this thread. I am an old guy who lives in and grew up in Nebraska and a UNL alum and just reflecting back on the last 21 years. Yesterday is another sad day in a string of sad days going back to the day that Coach Osborne announced his retirement in 1997. The real killer was Black Friday in 2001 and the resulting ridicule from playing in the BCS game and not belonging there. Just lots of emotions about this stuff. It is hard to explain to folks outside the state who didn’t grow up with this thing what a big part of life what Husker football is (or was) here. I think Trev had to pull the trigger yesterday after that abomination on Saturday night or anger and apathy would have exploded. That costs a lot of businesses in Lincoln a lot of $ if people don’t show up and spend their dollars on fall Saturdays.

Having 90k in the stadium to cheer for a bad team with a dead man walking coach hopefully shows the fans still care.
GBR Paco!

Hey Big Red Clay, there’s several Husker fans in here. I agree, I think the loyalty of the Husker fan base, the personal pride in the state the team brings and the importance of the revenue to the city is tough comparison elsewhere. It’s the only big time sport in the entire state. I grew up in Lincoln, climbed the fence as a kid to see my first Husker game in 1969. Had Turner Gill and Rozier in class in the 80’s. It would be nice to see them compete for division and conference titles again! GBR!
