Scott Frost’s time at Nebraska has come to an end.

Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts announced Sunday that the school has fired Frost as head coach just three games into his fifth season on the job.

The move comes on the heels of a 45-42 home loss to Georgia Southern that dropped the Huskers to 1-2 on the season and 16-31 overall with Frost as head coach. On top of that, the loss put the Huskers at an unfathomable 5-22 in one-possession games under Frost.

SEC runners up have a tendency to stink in Bowl Games, remember what Utah did to Alabama in 2008, after Bama lost the SECCG to us, and ruined their unbeaten season.

Glad to see another Husker fan on this thread. I am an old guy who lives in and grew up in Nebraska and a UNL alum and just reflecting back on the last 21 years. Yesterday is another sad day in a string of sad days going back to the day that Coach Osborne announced his retirement in 1997. The real killer was Black Friday in 2001 and the resulting ridicule from playing in the BCS game and not belonging there. Just lots of emotions about this stuff. It is hard to explain to folks outside the state who didn’t grow up with this thing what a big part of life what Husker football is (or was) here. I think Trev had to pull the trigger yesterday after that abomination on Saturday night or anger and apathy would have exploded. That costs a lot of businesses in Lincoln a lot of $ if people don’t show up and spend their dollars on fall Saturdays.

Having 90k in the stadium to cheer for a bad team with a dead man walking coach hopefully shows the fans still care.
GBR Paco!

I am disappointed in how underrated Georgia Southern is in this thread.

They are actually a good team!

The Big Schools need to look out for Southern, Marshall and Appalachian State. Their programs are going upward.

(I am slightly biased as the College I went to is part of SOuthern now. :D )

Auburn is like us, fan base needs to be patient.

Watch out for Arkansas though. Can’t wait for the Bama-Arky game, that just might decide the West.

When we lost to Georgia Southern in 2014, they were actually a pretty good team. Looking back not much shame in losing that game. It certainly now isn’t nearly as embarassing as Samford scoring 50+ on us last year, although we did win.

App State should have beaten North Carolina. Those teams may only have 3-star players, but they play hard and as a team, and if you aren’t careful they can bite you.

And it’s not as if Florida’s receivers are anything to write home about, UF’s talent-level as of now is smack dab in the middle of the conference. But if they play hard, they might still have a few upsets in them.

Here’s the Fairy Tale’s beginning chapter. And they lived happily ever after ;)

The Nebraska Huskers have hired Scott Frost as their new head football coach Nebraska Director of Athletics Bill Moos announced ….. Frost agreed to a seven-year, $35 million contract with Nebraska. Frost comes in with two seasons of head coaching experience at the University of Central Florida. At UCF, Frost amassed a record of 18-7, including an undefeated regular season. In 2015, the season before Frost took over, UCF finished with a record of 0-12. Just two years later, Frost led the Knights to an 11-0 record in the regular season, and a win in the AAC championship game …… In a press release, Moos said he hired Frost because “he is a rising star in the profession and a natural fit to lead the Nebraska program … I am thrilled that [Frost] is returning to his alma mater to lead the Husker football program,” Moos said. “I truly believe that we have hired the premier young coach in the country and that exciting times lie ahead.” ….. He was the starting quarterback in 1996 and on the Huskers last national championship team in 1997. Frost finished his Nebraska career with 2,677 pass yards, 1,534 rush yards and 46 total touchdowns. Frost replaces former head coach Mike Riley. Riley spent three seasons as the head football coach in Lincoln and finished with a 19-19 record in his three years at the helm. …. The 42-year-old Frost will look to help NU return to dominant form …. Frost said he was excited to return to his alma mater to coach in the press release. “It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to return to Nebraska and to lead the Husker football program,” Frost said. “I have been fortunate to be at a wonderful school the last two years, but Nebraska is a special place with a storied tradition and a fan base which is second to none. I am truly humbled to be here. The state of Nebraska and the Husker program mean a great deal to me. This is home.”

16-31 overall with Frost as head coach

Well, they gave him 4 years plus this year to demonstrate his ability, clearly it was time to get a new coach.

LOL, I think it was genius, myself. Get the defensive players to stop and watch and wonder “WTF?!?!”, while the running back scores.

Maybe they’ll take a look at the Georgia Southern head coach that beat them, former USC head coach Clay Helton.

The other crazy thing about Muschamp was he got another SEC head coaching job after one year off and failed again at USC.

When you hear criticisms about minority candidates getting hired as HCs in college football there is some validity about that.

There something wrong about people like Muschamp getting a 2nd chance at a power 5 school so quickly.

UF used to destroy Kentucky(UK fan here) but that seems to be changing. We seem to have a steady program. We win some big games, but Stoops has an uncanny ability to always lose one or two that should be easy W’s. You have the talent to recruit in Florida alone, it just has to come together and it will eventually. Just keep beating Tennessee like a red headed step child!

LOL, I was just going to say, it would be nice if UK would beat Tennessee every once in awhile.

I don’t know what shocked me more, that Stoops is now their winningest coach, or that Bear Bryant was their previous winningist coach.
