Thanks,
The WHO with Keith playing always stops me in my tracks!

‘Animal’ from the Muppets was model after Keith Moon.

I’m surprised Zak decided to sell that gift of a drum set from Keith Moon. Maybe, as a young man, he preffered to have that money to spend. $16K is a great deal of cash for a teenager.
Keith would have burned himself out if he had lived on, partying as was his custom. Or he may have survived, as
Iggy Pop continues to do, albeit with the appearance of someone who looks’burnt out’.

Saw Starkey play drums with The Who near Indianapolis in 2002 about three weeks after John Entwistle’s death. Great drummer. No Moon, but Moon and Neil Peart are probably the greatest ever. Were Moon and Entwistle the greatest rhythm section ever?

Glad he did not emulate Uncle Keith in all his traits!

I’m not a drum expert by any means but I was impressed by the late Ginger Baker in the probably 10 times I saw him play.
When interviewed once Leonard Bernstein was asked why he went to all the Cream concerts in person and often praised their work.
“Their drummer keeps good time.” he said, smiling.

Ginger Baker and Charlie Watts were great JAZZ drummers, not great rock drummers. Ringo Starr, aka “The Man Who Saved Rock and Roll” was the FIRST Rock and Roll Drummer. Before Starr, there were jazz drummers, R & B drummers and Pop drummers.
The common trait between Baker, Watts and Starr was their incredible time keeping. They were like human metronomes. I once read the studio logs of Beatle records out of like 350 mistakes during a song, 8 were Starr’s.

A fine guy troubled by autism (Townshend) - great when he wasn’t drinking or doing speed but those 30 day benders killed him.

Zak is the closest thing to a “Moon style drummer.”

The Who was never quite the same after Keith Moon passed.

This thread must contain nod to the great ex Small Faces drummer Kenny Jones WHO while no Ginger Baker, did step into Moon’s shoes quite well indeed.

The one drummer who never gets mentioned who was absolute influence on many drummers is Stewart Copeland.
