I’ve drive US50 from Dodge City, KS across to Sacramento, CA. It’s a scenic drive, but it’s two-lanes most all the way, so there’s always folks itching to pass, and it gets awfully remote in some places.
You might consider going up to St. Lou and taking I-70 if interstate speeds aren’t an issue. Set the Cruise Control to match the truckers and it’s almost like you’re standing still. Just pick a rig, match its speed, and keep far enough back that you can see the driver’s side mirror.
I-70 goes all the way across to I-15 about 120mi south of Provo. Plus, US50 and I-70 are one and the same all the way to there from Grand Junction, CO.
Once you hit I-15, you’ll be in pretty familiar environs.
Thanks!
For some reason, I don’t feel like driving I-40 again. That is the most stressful drive I’ve taken since we went to Chicago from Waukegan, when my son was a tiny baby. We went to Memphis in March, and I’ve only ever had two kinds of headaches until that day. I don’t want to make that trip again!
Yeah, I’m familiar with I-70. I’ve been over it several times, as well as I-80. Comes out at Cove Fort, north of Beaver.
I’m still a long way from actual travel plans, but those things are very good to know. I appreciate the time you’ve taken to tell me.
And FYI, tell Mrs. HK that I’ll be in the same complex I was in before, just a different apartment!
