The Monthly Fiber Arts Thread is a monthly gathering of people that love yarn and fabric of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first project, to experienced fiber artists and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
It is impossible to hijack the Monthly Fiber Arts Thread. Knitting, crochet, quilting, weaving, general crafting - there is no telling where it will go, and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our Fiber Arts Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a Month Ping List. We do post to the thread during the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Fiber Arts fans are welcomed any time!
Awww, that’s too bad about the hat trick. But you gave someone else a chance!
Check out this guy .... some people are just so gifted .... INCREDIBLE stuff:
Mister Finch Textile Art

“Scraps of thread and fabric are stitched and pulled into fairy tale creatures looking for new owners and worlds to inhabit. Finch works alone and makes everything himself by hand in a studio full of books, glass jars and naughty cats.”

“Crochet Potholder Mitts”
Very smart idea! Quick & useful is always a bonus.
I’ve decided to start on lap afghans for either Vets at my VA Hospital or my Dad’s old care facility.
I’ve got leftover yarn from a number of those afghans, so I want to put it to good use.
Simple, HDC with the Caron Simply Soft yarn, then a border to hide color changes. 40 x 35 is a standard size for those.
I also LOVED your other post with the creative artist. Some stunning work! :)
Just beautiful. Great design and execution.
My Mom made all of our “jammies” when we were kids. We always had nice, fluffy terrycloth robes, too. She and her BFF used to dress us four girls (Me & Sis, Betty & Bonnie) alike at every holiday in pretty hand-made dresses.
Our Christmas blue velvet dresses with the lace collars were our absolute favorites, though our Easter dresses were always pretty, too. ‘The Grandmas’ provided fancy hats, gloves, tights, and white patent-leather shoes and purses to complete the ensembles. :)
Great memories! Wish I still had those dresses, but they got passed down to younger Cousins. Waste not, want not!
One ‘heirloom’ I plan on grabbing in a fire is a quilt my Grandma made that has leftover scraps of clothing in it from all of us through the years. Again, great memories.
Handcrafted ‘anything’ leaves behind great memories! :)
I lucked on to a FB page I like (Heirloom Gardener Jon Forti) and he in turn has reposted from another FB page https://www.facebook.com/incrediblegardens.org
The Incredible Gardens is posting the unique artists ... there’s so much more, but sometimes there are not separate links. They’ve posted embroidery (flowers, etc) & some veggies I’m going to go back and look for ... not sure the medium used, but I don’t think it’s paint.
Found a link I can share - veggies are embroider ... couple of pics here:

Anyway, I’m am trying to keep my newsfeed on positive things & I really like these two pages.
PS - Just saw this in my feed .... really pretty “lace” blanket, NEW pattern:
Red Heart Crochet Irish Accent Afghan
https://www.yarnspirations.com/red-heart-crochet-irish-accent-afghan/RHC0102-033659M.html
Takes 8 skeins in Super Saver, color Aran. I’m going to download the pattern & check it out ... based just on the ‘look’ of this one, I’d make it.
The inverse of this is ME sitting in the truck while Beau is in Harbor Freight looking at tools that he doesn't need. I always bring a book or my current crochet project.
September is National Sewing Month!
The observance of September as National Sewing Month began with a proclamation from President Ronald Reagan. In 1982, he declared this special month-long celebration “In recognition of the importance of home sewing to our Nation.” Subsequent Proclamations declared that “Tens of millions of Americans sew at home. Their efforts demonstrate the industry, the skill and the self-reliance which are so characteristic of this Nation.”
National Sewing Month is the recognition of a creative form of self-expression that we celebrate in September, but enjoy all year. The month-long Open House of retailers, bloggers, online stores, schools, organizations, individuals and more is a great time to renew interest, share ideas, be inspired, expand your knowledge and express your creativity. Happy sewing!

September is National Sewing Month – 30 Day Challenge
Ideas for Honoring National Sewing Month:
Start a new sewing project in honor of National Sewing Month!
Finish an in-progress sewing project.
Tidy up your sewing area! (This counts too!)
Teach a family member or friend to sew.
Take a class at your local sewing or quilt store.
Enroll in an online sewing class like the many sewing, quilting and embroidery classes available through Bluprint.
Find a charity to sew for. There are tons of websites for free patterns and charity organizations that you can get involved in. Check with local sewing and quilt guilds for charity sewing ideas for your own community.
Donate fabric to local sewing groups so they can continue sewing for their own charity work.
Dig out your serger and serge up a couple pillow cases to remind yourself how much you LOVE (and miss using) your serger.

This week, I have been making “binky clips”. See review and pictures here:
https://sewing.patternreview.com/review/pattern/185023
Also plan to make a few bibs. Finished a shirt and kimono set (2nd version) for the 11 year old granddaughter, she loves it!
Trying to find more affordable sources for materials. I do not think the Goodwill stores near me have fabric, but I should double-check. Also found a (new to me site) of ineedfabric.com. Seems to have many cotton quilting type choices, but I have no idea on quality.
Nice! :)
If you haven’t already, check out equilter.com for fabric. I buy from them all the time and have always been happy with price and quality. Quick shipping, too. They get rave reviews and donate some of their profits to charities.
Thank you! I will check it out!
Just ran across this, for anyone who enjoys cross stitch...

I love the Primitive Hare’s designs and linen.
Just wish I could get new eyeballs.
I love this - Mikey says “stunning” & I agree. LOVE the colors. Should work up fast “5” bulky yarn. Free pattern.
