Better to just find a better paying job or more income.

He doesn’t need to live off peanut butter.

Even when I wasn’t working from home, I would bring leftovers in for lunch, warming them in the microwave there.

Why? ANY expense that you can cut is beneficial to you. The less you spend on non-essentials, the better off you are.

People are happiest when they are happy with what they have.

Wrong. Better to just whine and cry until Joe Biden needs to buy your vote.

I disagree. I think this was an important lesson about how we can satisfy ourselves with hard work and determination. Cooking at home costs so much less than eating out, and you can usually eat more nutritionally while you’re at it.

I have some girlfriends who like to eat out together once a month, and I tell you, rarely is the food better tasting than my own cooking. When it is better, it usually costs me an arm and a leg. Last night was one of those nights. That fancy dinner cost me $40 plus the tip, and I could’ve made nearly the exact same meal for $18-20. (However, I will say it was nice to not have to cook for a change.)

The PB&J’s won’t last forever, but the lesson learned will last a lifetime.

Nothing wrong with seeking a better paying job, but without taking control of expenses it won't do any good.

Spending more than you earn is the path to debt no matter what you salary is.

This is the class of people whose student loans we'll be paying off:

Maybe she should've made more PB&J sandwiches.

Better to immediately stem the outflow, as she did.

That doesn’t have to hinder her finding better-paying work.

Actually not.

The lesson this person needs to learn is how to budget because no matter how much income you have you will fritter it away if you have no idea where it is going. First you learn how to budget, then you learn how to manage, then you learn how to make it work for you, then you become healthy, wealthy and wise.

And that is what they are doing.

The news is filled with the story of people who had, at one time, a great deal of money and it went bye bye because they had no idea how to manage it.

Financial advisors will tell you to get your spending habits under control first. Otherwise, new income will just lead to new spending at a higher level and the debt problem will just compound.

Now disciplined spending and more income will get you out of debt quickly.

It amazes me that people would eat at restaurants, not only on a daily basis, but multiple times a day.

Granted I am shaped by my environment.

I live in a rural area; nearest 30,000 pop town is roughly a 2 hour drive. Even when I travel I usually take a meal with me. Something I’ve always done.

I firmly believe I make better food, cheaper, and waste less time dining. Fast food is slop. Restaurants are too expensive, and high end dining, frankly, takes too much time. I’ve got much better things to do than sit around and idly eat.

I hope that people forced to eat cheaper discover, not only can they cook for themselves, but that eating for leisure isn’t a proper social activity.
