For a perspective on the slow walking of aid, look at what Nixon sent in under five weeks to Israel during the Yom Kippur War in 1973 and compare that to what Biden’s handlers sent to Ukraine in six months. Nixon for all his left-of-center tendencies was competent at doing certain things.

You know how mean Nixon was? He would have these dinner parties, I mean he had these things for years. During his “Wilderness Years” and after his resignation. He would have all the heavy hitters and academics who were of interest to him at his apartment either in Manhattan or in Saddle Brook, or Park Ridge and he would have a cocktail hour. An HOUR. That’s it. Hard and fast rule to his bartender of many years was: “One drink per guest. No exceptions.”
Now that wrankled a lot of the heavy-hitters because quite a few of them were heavy hitters in another department. Under no circumstances were they to be given a second drink. No matter how much they begged or bribed Nixon’s personal bartender.
Now that’s mean.
That’s great. I never heard that story. One of my earliest political memories was that of my family watching the Nixon-Kennedy debates. My family was for Nixon but I said I was for Kennedy. They asked me why and I said I like the way he combs his hair. I had the excuse of being just six years old.
Later, I saw Kennedy in person at Vanderbilt University in May of 1963.
Years later, I became interested in the case of his most compatible mistress, Mary Meyer who was killed by two bullets less than a year after her lover was killed by two bullets. She was shot while taking a walk on the C&O Canal towpath in Geogetown, DC.
