You may have heard of a company’s “ESG score”: The initials stand for environmental, social and governance — and the scores businesses receive can determine whether they have access to capital and at what interest rate, among other things.

Now, Bank Australia wants to export that kind of thinking to an individual’s choice of car.

According to Fox Business, the financial institution announced Friday that it will stop providing loans for new gas and diesel cars starting in 2025. Instead, it will only be giving loans to those buying new electric vehicles or used gas and diesel cars…

Would people just start taking out personal loans or home equity loans when they want to buy a new car?

Exactly. Financing a car is insane unless you keep it for 15-20 years.

It’s simple math but hardly anyone pays attention.

They have already. The Insurance company rejected a claim for a house fire caused by a golf cart plugged in all night. Additionally they didn’t put water in the batteries. But still insurance company said no way.

I’m surprised how few have mentioned this is really the spread of fascism and how private enterprise is flocking to join the chorus.

How are people living in apartments supposed to charge cars?

That is a good point I had not thought of. I will add to my list of "Why EVs are not ready for prime time".

Yes, another example of business leaders selling out, just like Ayn Rand warned us about. As a capitalist one should also actively promote capitalism not progressivism. These people are just as bad as the Bolshevists.

Good point. THIS is the problem though with corporate America (and Australia). Virtue signaling distracts from a corporations proper role of creating profits for its shareholders. Even resource companies have an entire set of web pages dedicated to “community improvements” or “climate change” ect...

My auto is a 19, going on 20 year old Pontiac Vibe (they don’t make them anymore) in mint condition, as I bought it the year before I retired in 2003; only 38,000 miles on it, and I hope it lasts until I croak or can’t drive anymore, whichever comes first.

I love my car, a small 4 door SUV, fire engine red, and I’ll bet even in spite of its age, I could sell it used for a great price. Pontiac Vibes were a hybrid car, a partnership between the Japanese automakers and the U.S.
Engine and innards were Japanese, body and design were GM, so the best of both worlds, great long lasting engines/guts inside; beautiful design outside.

Great mileage; I love my small SUV. Perfect for me. Don’t drive much anymore in my dotage, so should last for quite a few more years with proper upkeep. I hope to park it in front of my tombstone. We are going to go together.

Since about 2% of new cars in Australia are EV’s, I highly doubt this virtue signaling will last long.
