Oh swell. More race baiting. Just what America doesn’t need.

This isn’t surprising. I had a (white) friend in a “mixed” neighborhood who was good friends with his black neighbor on the street behind him. The neighbor eventually moved (because of the black people in his neighborhood) to a suburb of Dallas which had a high black population. She was unhappy, saying it was “too black” and wanted to move elsewhere again. It was intra-race “racism,” with a good basis.

THIS was allowed on Yahoo??? Shocking.

I hope she is prepared for the destruction coming her way. The democrat party has vicious slave catchers for the uppity blacks who dare leave the plantation.

She sure is a self avowed Racist isn’t she? Maybe she should be visited by CPS and have her child removed from the home for this racist hate crime against her child

This was a good article and was very hopeful. I was very impressed with the young author and his very mature attitudes and wisdom.

I was somewhat saddened when, near the end, the young man wrote:

My African-American peers and I want to be educated by teachers who look like us.

We want to hear their stories. We want to hear how they made it to college. If they go, maybe we can go, too. Tell us about African-American fraternities and sororities, dorms and the fun times they had so we know that college isn’t just boring hard work. We want to hear about their mistakes, so we learn from them.

He's imbibed too much of the black separatist crap. He should have learned from his new experiences to be more colorblind.

That was a disappointing conclusion to his otherwise fine story.

My goal is not to criticize but to remind them that their students need them. We want them to care about us. Some of their students will only care when they do. We are waiting for them.

The author does not want to admit/address it, but the problem is that most of the students at his old school just don’t care. If the students/parents don’t care, no amount of quality teaching or resources will make them care.

The “secret” is that learning is not about money or even good teaching. A teacher is largely a guide, nothing more. Motivated students largely teach themselves.

Yeah, but I’ll bet she still votes for O’bama. I’ll bet she still uses her race to gain the advantage over more deserving Whites and Asians.

In the meantime, schools in Minneapolistan want to fire white teachers who have experience, seniority and more intelligence than black teachers.

Because... shut up you racist.

My kids attended South High. They did have some caring teachers and expectations were high. The assumption was that you were bound for college, or, second choice, vocational school. (Yes, I know that will rile some here, but it’s how they roll. I don’t feel bad about that because you can also enroll in adult level vocational classes while at South and a free bus will take you over to the vocational school.). The kids are from every background but they nearly all have parents with high expectations for their kids and for the school. Many are immigrants who aspire to the American dream. They are often upper middle class. Parents volunteer and kick in money for sports and extra curriculars. The per pupil spending and teacher salaries are less than LA Unified. The graduation rate is over 90%.

Yes, there are stoners, thots, and slacker kids, sneaking vape in wood shop, for example, I’m told. There are shallow, materialistic kids and gamers. But there are also a lot of “try hards”, and a notable number of religiously observant, and even conservative, students and faculty.
I am aware of only one fight my kids saw in the total of 7 years we had kids there. Guess who: two girls.

We have a pic of our son and his friends. Several skin tones and every major world religion is represented in that picture. It just goes to show what is possible when people aren’t making racism a focal point of life.

For the author, I would say that while it might be nice for him to hear college stories from black teachers, it is far more important that he hear competent instruction. College stories from his white and Asian teachers won’t hurt him any, either.

Go South!!
