Perreault, 63, was struck by the umbrella while at Beach Access 14, according to a Horry County Emergency Management incident report. According to the report, witnesses said an umbrella from the Sea Watch Hotel had been blown from the ground into the air. The umbrella tumbled "end over end down the beach until it struck the victim on the left side of the upper torso," the report said. Perreault was transferred to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Prayers to her family. A few days ago, a man was struck by lightning while he was at the beach. The nearest lightning was 4 miles away and it was partly cloudy.
Isn’t Biden down there?
With Hunter?
Maybe a little “blow” set it off?
It is like the Mary Tyler Moore ‘Chuckles the Clown’ episode when Chuckles died and everyone except for Mary was laughing, then at the funeral Mary was laughing. I don’t think it is disrespect, but it is a way to cope.
I’ll do that. In the meantime, you can kiss my azz.
You’re an engineer so you’ll know exactly where to plant it.
Have you visited the “get off my lawn” thread today?
I sell umbrellas and furniture to designers and architects for hotels and restaurants. Customers are insane about what they expect an umbrella to do. It’s basically a sail in heavy wind. Operator has to be sure they are well anchored. We don’t sell the beach type at all…too much liability.
“Now go order your dog around. I’m sure he’s doing something you don’t approve of.”
LOL! Reminds me of, “You’re not the boss of me! That’s my DOG’S job!”
I read this story earlier today. First thoughts? Someone will post this to FR and The Usual Suspects will get bent about it.
As usual, I was correct! :)
And so today we remember Chuckles the Clown: “A little song, a little dance, a little Seltzer down you pants!”
Some of the best writing on TV, ever. No wonder the Emmy’s (back when they meant something!) were awarded to MTM so many times over. :)
Dreadful. RIP.
I have a feeling 95% of freepers couldn’t even pronounce horry county correctly or even find it on an unmarked map.
Based on the title, the woman was struck by an umbrella and then killed?
I can find it, as it’s the NE-most county in SC, and have been to Myrtle Beach a few times. I always thought it was pronounced “Horr-ee”, I didn’t realize it was “Haw-ree.”
So, for you to get your feelings hurt you have to realize how ridiculous you are being.
The next thing you should realize is that it would be better for you to laugh WITH the people who are laughing at you when you are being ridiculous.
So these are the first two of the 12 step program to restore a damaged sense of humor.
Please forward your health insurance information. I don’t work for free.
I’ve spent many hours on ocean beaches and observed that wind-driven umbrellas can definitely be life-threatening. And obviously the higher the wind the greater the danger.
I can imagine, hard to protect people from themselves!
Haw-ree? Never heard that one. It’s pronounced “orry”. H is silent. I pay a lot of taxes to it.
I looked it up on Google and they claimed it sounds like “Haw-ree”, but others said (like you), ‘Orry. Since I’ve never heard it pronounced, even when I was there, it’ll always be “Horry” in my head. ;-D
