Spontaneous Combustion - The EV's Deadly Elephant In The Room
You Tube ^ | Uncle Tony's Garage

We've talked about some of the problems associated with modern lithium ion battery powered vehicles in the past, but I don't think the possibility of incinerating your family as they sleep, or kids as they ride to school is something that can be taken too seriously. Think before you park one of these potential Hiroshima specials in your garage.

I know someone who had two houses burn down, gas cars in the garage started both fires.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I witnessed a neighbor’s car on fire about 20 years ago.... fortunately it was sitting on the driveway. He had a Volvo and one of the seat warmers shorted out. At the time, I did a check with the fire department and they were having a huge run of car fires for the same or similar reasons. It gave me huge pause for thought on whether the cars should be put into the garage at night so what I did was something I recommend everyone do.... install a smoke/fire/CO detector in the garage and have it ‘wired to an alarm in the house. This isn’t such a difficult thing to do given that fire alarms can be ganged together wirelessly.
Yes. It’s not that unusual.
IT's not unheard of for a gas vehicle involved in a crash to catch fire. It is extremely unlikely for a gas car sitting in a garage or parked to catch fire. Don't try to mix things up by citing statistics for different scenarios and claiming them as the same. and BTW the captain of the car carrier that caught fire and sunk said Felicity Ace’s captain Joao Mendes Cabecas said lithium-ion batteries in the electric cars on board caught fire.
These EVs are quite safe from spontaneous combustion!
Can't get much greener than this green field, soon to be a forest.
No nasty farming will be done here for at least a century.
Petroleum is a kind of “binary” fuel. Is is not enough to have gasoline. You also have to have oxygen,
I remember my HS science teacher telling us young skulls full of mush that IN THEORY, on a very cold day it's possible to drop a lit match in a gasoline can without igniting it. NOT that it should be tried
i think the new models are called firestarter inferno fireball flamethrower
Thr old Buick straight 8s, and the "nailhead" V8s that replaced them were called the FIREball. In the 50's Chrysler had the DeSoto FIREDOME and FIREflyte. And in the 60's Oldsmobile had the StarFIRE. Perhaps they can bring back those names on any EVs they come out with, go for the nostalgia angle🤔
“The law of unintended consequences. Forcing kids in sh!thole countries to mine cobalt under dangerous slave like conditions. Putting a bigger strain on the already overburdened electric grid. The clear and present danger of being incinerated in one of those glorified golf carts. It’s all a small price to pay for getting a warm fuzzy feeling deluding ourselves into thinking we’re making a difference when it comes to climate change.😖🤬 ”
The greenies claim that CO2 and CH4 are causing “climate change”. Both are considered trace elements (<1%) of the Earth’s atmosphere. Talk about industrial grade fraud!
"Think before you park one of these potential Hiroshima specials in your garage."
Several years ago I briefly rented an apartment in a building with a first floor garage. I won't do that again.
Yes they caught fire, but what started the fire hasn’t been determined.
I think that as EVs becomes more common, we will see more fires.
And battery based fires seem more volatile and seem to burn hotter.
The cell phone battery in question was extremely small in comparison to a stack of batteries used in an EV.
The glass in the windshield started to melt which means there was significant heat. Maybe 700F? All from one little cell phone battery. Multiply that by a hundred times and you have an EV battery system.
