I remember murderous hot, HOT summers when I was a kid 1946-1956, In the Rocky Mountains, and later the hotter and humid Ozarks, 1956 till now.

And no AC till 1968.

Yeah my first car w/AC was in 74 and my first house was 82. Of course I don't remember any kids dying in hot cars either back then....the windows were always down.

“And no AC till 1968.”

About the same here. The window unit was so heavy it took 3 men to get it into the window!

Before that we would spend summer evenings on our front porch or walking the neighborhood. So did all our neighbors. We knew everybody in our whole neighborhood so if I or one of my brothers did something stupid a few blocks away, my mom knew about it before we could pedal home!

Neighbors were our social “media” back then.

Me too...In Upstate NY. We always had the sprinkler on to run through...the grass was green and rich with worms at night...

and that's how we made our ice cream money...we sold worms for a penny each to the local fishing supply store. Doesn't take long to pick 300 worms.

No air until 1980.
