As I sit here in my red county in Michigan, I don’t hold the same optimism.
Way too many LEO are “Paycheck over oath”.
They know that if they don’t follow the orders of TPTB, they will not only be terminated but will also be subject to the jack-boot treatment they were asked to inflict on the residents.
As an example, I give you the swarm of FBI agents crawling around MAL.
How many of them showed today with doubts in their mind about the intent?
Yet, they went, caring little about the Constitution.
“I was just doing my job.”
And that’s why we are moored at this island in SE Alaska where the primary economic driver is the production of food by the commercial fishing fleet; where hunting and fishing is a way of life for almost everyone of the 3000 odd residents; where every household has firearms; where people carry guns as a matter of routine and where the 15 borough police officers and their leadership know and approve.
Bonus: In this situation it is possible to know, personally, every LEO on the rock, including the two Alaska State Wildlife Troopers. I have yet to meet the commander of the new USCG Cutter but the spouse of one of the crew just started working for PR at the vet clinic. The cop who comes to your door will be your neighbor, someone you go to church with, run into at the grocery store, borrow tools from or go hunting with.
I know I say it too often and I try to avoid being repetitive but life here is just so vastly different from what most folks are used to in the rest of the US it is difficult to comprehend if you haven’t experienced it.
