So — here is a question for the fifteen president TFT folk:
Do you remember having to relearn the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954? That was when the Congress inserted the words “under God” into it.
The change was effective with the beginning of the school year, and much merriment ensued in my class; we would all wait for the AHA! moment when one of our friends (usually the boys) would forget to say the pledge as amended. Took us clear into 1955 until the whole class got it right at the same time.
Sorry if I left anyone off the 15 prez list - no snub intended.
Do you remember why the Pledge was altered?
Was way before my time, but....isn’t that when they ADDED in ‘one nation under God’??
I might have it wrong, but, again....before my time.
June 15, 1954, Flag Day, President Eisenhower added “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance.
Why was under God added to the pledge?
During the Cold War era, many Americans wanted to distinguish the United States from the state atheism promoted by Marxist-Leninist countries, a view that led to support for the words “under God” to be added to the Pledge of Allegiance.
What is the 15 President club? Were here when James Buchanan was President? (Dodging rotten tomatoes)
I am only a 13 President TFT Resident.
But thanks for the history lesson and for helping to get us to post #6000!
