June 15, 1954, Flag Day, President Eisenhower added “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance.

Why was under God added to the pledge?

During the Cold War era, many Americans wanted to distinguish the United States from the state atheism promoted by Marxist-Leninist countries, a view that led to support for the words “under God” to be added to the Pledge of Allegiance.

Correct-o, LG! Our teacher said it was to smoke out the Godless Communists, because after all, they wouldn’t say it!

And then we would know who they were - and not have anything to do with them.

That worked out well, didn’t it? LOLOLOL!
