26 Coal-Fired Power Plants in 14 States Plan to Stop Burning Coal Due to New Rule
Newsweek ^ | 11/22/21 | Lora Korpar

Dozens of coal-fired power plants across the U.S. plan to stop burning coal or to shut down by the end of the decade, the Associated Press reported.

The decision is not driven by climate change concerns but to comply with a new wastewater rule requiring them to clean coal ash and toxic heavy metals from the water before it's dumped back into streams and rivers. The plants had an October deadline to tell state regulators how they plan to comply.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the rule is expected to affect 75 coal-fired power plants across the country. The Sierra Club said at least 26 plants in 14 states said they will stop burning coal, with 21 shutting down and five switching to natural gas.

You can forget that. Unlike in Germany, they begin tearing these plants down soon after closure.

The Moscow, Oh. plant, ten miles from me, was built and 90% complete as a nuclear plant in the 80s. The China Syndrome liars in DC shut that down before it opened. At great additional expense the plant was converted to coal. It’s provided cheap electricity to me since. Last month the climate liars in DC shut it down permanently.

I didn’t have the money at the time but I ran across someone on craigslist selling about a cubic yard of coal and I have a couple of Fisher wood stoves here that can handle coal with the right grate.

We heat our whole house with a wood burning stove.

Of course, we have backup...another wood burning stove.

It was about 3 bucks per mmBtu until early this year, now at between 5 and 8 bucks per mmBtu.

I know. Two of these closed plants are on the Ohio in Ohio’s poorest county. Rural Adams County has lost a huge chunk of its tax and job base.

Wonderful! The people’s electric bills will at least double. And electricity produced will be cut substancilly. And in 2024 the Peole will again prefer Lying Joe Biden for President. I don’t believe the bastard is going anywhere until he goes. He still occupies the White House today and that is all that matters. One might consider buying extra blankets this summer for use this winter.

2030 is the date they are pushing for. They are especially aggressive because Republicans will hopefully put a stop to this insanity soon.
