“F 150 Lightning charging a Mustang Mach E.”
Nice side job! Giving a 2 hour ‘jump start’ to some idiot who doesn’t understand that a discharged battery means they’re not going very far.
The point was that there are uses for a pickup in a large police force, and the F-150 Lightning could be used to fulfill those roles. Just its power generation capabilities would be useful at nighttime accident scenes for lighting.
state highway departments handle lighting at crash scenes...
i was a manager and tow truck operator for a couple of automotive towing and recovery services for almost 26 years...
electric vehicles are worthless in a 24/7/365 application...
“Not even close to accurate.”
Darn close!
“Including TAX subsidies?”
What subsidies?
Ford has gas powered trucks that do the same thing...
I agree with that statement. I disagree that electric vehicles are worthless in any law enforcement role. In certain non-patrol roles where carrying or towing capacity is required, they might work well. And the Lightning would certainly be handy in the field where AC power is required without the hassle or noise of a gasoline generator.
The Lightning can provide up to 10kW of power in both 110V and 220V, and provide 30kW-H per day for three days.
No, its not going to replace the patrol car. But it has its uses.
there’s no mention of range...
these vehicles have proven incapable of towing anything long distance...
it’s worthles if it can’t return on it’s own power after working a 12 hour shift...
then there’s the added expenses of charging stations installations at police stations coupled with the original price tag of the vehicles...
the only use these overglorified golf carts have is raising taxes to pay for this idiocy...
I shall wait for the inevitable YouTube video of one of these police trucks having to break off a high speed pursuit in order to charge the battery.
There's no mention of range because the F-150's range is already well known. The extended range (ER) version is 320 miles.
So stupid.
your failure to address the rest of my post #107 indicates you want to play stupid games...
these vehicles have proven incapable of towing anything long distance...
https://electrek.co/2022/05/31/ford-f-150-lightning-loses-range-towing-23-foot-airstream-trailer/
I was able to tow the Airstream around 30 miles today and understand how the Lightning does with some weight behind it. The TL;DR is that with a 23-foot Airstream, I am seeing 0.8mi/kWh. Compared to the 1.5-1.8 I have seen on my road trips thus far without the trailer, it’s around 50% of the range when towing.
For a police department, they probably won't need too much cross country towing of a bomb disposal trailer.
it’s worthles if it can’t return on it’s own power after working a 12 hour shift...
Again, it isn't meant to be a replacement for a regular patrol car.
then there’s the added expenses of charging stations installations at police stations coupled with the original price tag of the vehicles...
Most police departments don't have their own gas pumps, they refuel at fleet gas stations. The F-150 Lightning could recharge at a local 150 kW DC Fast Charger, were it can be charged from 15% to 80% in 41 minutes.
The 80 amp 240V charger can recharge the vehicle overnight, and will require professional installation, but the cost isn't outrageous.
the only use these overglorified golf carts have is raising taxes to pay for this idiocy...
You are discounting the lower cost of operation for the F-150 Lightning vs. a gasoline F-150. EVs require less maintenance, there are no oil changes, and are cheaper per mile to operate than gasoline.
Look, you hate EVs, I get that. I don't think they're ready for prime time, either, to take over all roles in a police department or in real life.
But 2022's EVs are not the 1990s GM EV-1. At least have an open mind.
i don’t hate ev’s...
they just aren’t practical and cost effective for all applications...
check out suwannee county florida and explain to me how this will work in my area...
On this, we whole-heartedly agree.
As to Suwannee County, I don't know enough about their department to know if they have a use for a pickup truck in their daily operations.
Again, clearly, not for daily road patrol. Do they have a SWAT unit that sometimes need to haul equipment to the range? Do they have a bomb disposal unit that needs to pull a bomb disposal trailer on occasion? Do they have a special events group that need to haul barricades occasionally?
“google earth” suwannee county florida and click on the aerial view...
i have a 10 acre compound in one of those patches of woods you see dotted throughout the farmland between live oak and branford...
All the car thief has to do is steal a gas car and outlast the electric police vehicles.
