Upper middle class white kids in trouble was about as far away from my rural Mississippi outhouse out back, hand pump water from a well upbringing as you can get, but I enjoyed it because it showed me that there as another world that I could live in.

Same here. High Plains poor, oil camps. Then dad decided he wanted to move to the Ozarks for some reason. A place he had never lived.
boy did it teach him a lesson! We went from poor to destitute! My brother and I, later as adults, fled poverty only when we moved somewhere else.
