So how do you recommend picking between, for instance, the 20 Republican Governor candidates running in the OR primary to be the R candidate in the general? Just to use a recent example.
Smokey back room? There are other offices being run for besides President.
I recall Geo Washington’s idea (he was totally opposed to political parties and he was 100% correct but here we are) that whoever wants to run for Pres is on the ballot and may the best man win.
But that doesn’t solve state issues. Not really.
This argument is gaslighting by the incumbents to use tax money to fund their “not-an-election” primaries - beauty pageants.
The voters have become convinced through this argument that they have a right [duty!] to pick the “most likely to...” yearbook contest.
No one is elected to an office as a result of a primary.
