Marines are under the Dept of Navy

The MEN's dept.

That's right. Back when I was coming of age, (in the days of Red Dawn and Rambo) all my friends planned on going into a military branch. In those days we played war games, we were involved in CAP (search and rescue) and anything we could do to get ready, and we were pretty freakin brutal with our war games. One of our older friends ultimately chose the Marines. When he came back from boot camp he told us the story of "Mount Mother F---er" in San Diego. (Don't remember the official name, anyone remember this?) Steep muddy hill you had to climb with a 70 pound backpack on. One of the guys in front of him couldn't make it, so my friend slung him on his back and chugged right up that hill - with his own 70 lb backpack. When he came back to visit he was a Lance Corporal.

Anyway, later, in one of our own war games, my team was in heavy camo going up a hill to capture the opposing team. They couldn't see us but knew we were coming. Like I said, we were brutal. The team at the top started rolling VERY large rocks down the hill. One of my guys got hit in the head. I remembered the story my Marine friend told me and thought, well, if he can do it, so can I, and I slung my buddy over my back and continued up that hill (carefully avoiding rocks coming down). We surprised them and they took off running like cowards (they knew one of my team got hit) and we chased them down and captured every last one. Got my buddy to our triage while hunting them down. Ah, those were the days.

maybe this ?:
Mt. F'fer

I was in Boot Camp @ San diego in 69 and I don't remember humping that hill. I do remember humping hills @ Pendleton during ITR(comes after boot camp - Infantry Training Regiment) and Schools(where you are taught your MOS - I was artillary - 105mm guns) (whatever hill it was, we humped it carrying the 105 breech-block(firing mechanism). usually as punishment for some slight.
