Here’s the starting point for the way negotiations should go. Everyone involved in the murder of a baby, including the mother gets the death penalty. I’d be willing to give a little on that as part of the negotiations, perhaps reduce the penalty to life in prison for some indirectly involved in the murder. That’s how you negotiate.
Roe served as a very useful foil for Republican candidates and voters alike, allowing them keep the pro-life base happy in proposing and supporting extreme abortion restrictions that they knew wouldn't stand up in court. It also allowed more moderate Republican voters to continue supporting those candidates whose abortion policies were more extreme than they'd prefer with the understanding that Roe would serve as a bulwark.
Roe's reversal definitely complicates the environment now for GOP candidates. In many places, such as Virginia, a total ban on abortion is simply not politically feasible. The Democrats will also find themselves needed to defend their "abortion at any time for any reason up to the moment of birth" platform, a position that is just as unpopular with the American majority as total bans are.
Compromise laws will be necessary to win in purple states. People here who doubt this can see what happens when they put forward candidates who are fighting for total bans and these candidates lose handedly to the Democrats.
Right, in this context the expression “don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good” may seem vulgar but it fits.
Yessir! I too believe that’s the political reality on the ground in many, maybe even most, states.
The south will lead the way again. I’m hoping the Latino vote rises up and kicks out the murdering democrats.
Negotiating Republicans.
Is there ever another form of them?
Prediction: Lots of voters who expect GOP politicians who promised for years and years to oppose abortion are about to get a serious disappointment. Maybe I’m wrong, time will tell. But that’s my prediction.
If the pubs had both houses and the governorship, things might be different, but as it stands one can go with whatever will clear the Senate and no more.
The alternative is to do nothing until when/if Senate changes.
Imagine that John is the father of a newborn baby daughter named Ashley.
Bill comes up to him and claims a right to kill John’s newborn baby daughter Ashley at any point in the following nine months.
Would you tell John to compromise and agree to let Bill kill John’s newborn baby daughter Ashley at any point in the next 5 months?
3 months?
6 weeks?
Any time period at all?
If not why not?
Please answer because that is exactly what you are proposing.
Some pro-lifers contend that if abortion-advocating women could see pictures of babies murdered by abortion, they would suddenly be wrenched out of alleged Invincible Ignorance and be opposed to murdering babies.
That is inaccurate.
I volunteered for years with displays that showed babies murdered by abortion and the abortion-advocating college women that came up to the displays to shout babykilling slogans were completely unmoved, completely cold, and as much for murdering babies by abortion as ever.
They know that babies between conception and birth are babies and want to murder them anyway.
That is the incredibly ugly reality that pro-lifers need to understand in order to understand the policies needed.
Your entire word salad post is complete nonsense and I am now stupider for having taken the time to read it.
Agree with you both. This is not the biggest issue facing voters in the state. Youngkin and team listened to voters concerns and addressed them. Those concerns are the economy, crime, and the wokeness going on in schools.
There is nothing close to a majority to ban abortions, not in any state.
Try it in every state and find out.
I saw a couple of these freaks live and in color (well actually in old white lady) yesterday in DC
