A black co-worker from a previous life told me that he sent his two teenaged sons to a Christian boarding school in Ghana. It cost him $2000 each in tuition plus about that much more in airfare and room and board.

He told me it was the best money he ever spent. His boys came home grateful, polite and willing to work, totally divorced from the 'hood culture.

Your story reminds me of how Angela Lansbury moved to Ireland for years while her children grew up. She did not want them in Hollywood, New York, or London I suppose. IIRC!

Hmmmmm.... I’m already settled in my career but some enterprising educator could open boarding schools abroad to do just this. There is a nice group in Honduras called “Helping Honduras Kids” that have a school and orphanage in the jungle that take in a raise / school children. Run by Christians. They could enroll a set number of paying students that subsidize the place.
