IRS audits of political opponents was legalized under the Obama administration.
Just ask million who were audited because they were conservatives or had their applications for 501c denied.

If the odds of both being selected for an intensive audit are 30,000 to 1, then the odds of being selected are about 173 to 1 from the whole population. But their incomes are substantially higher than average and the IRS looks more closely at those with higher incomes, because that is where they are more likely to find tax problems. So the odds of a higher income person being audited are not 173 to 1 or so, They are probably closer to 1 in 20.
It does not help them that these two are known liars so the IRS may have good reason to do a detailed audit.
At least we agree that the IRS needs to be abolished. It has become way too poliitical.
