Look, the contestant was a young man. I bet he had never heard of 78 rpm records.

I've noticed the predominant generation of Jeopardy contestants these days have little clue about things before 1990.

Why do women always get insulted when you overestimate their age? You would think it would be an honor to make to 90 or 100 years old.

Diana Ross at the Glastonbury festival 2022:

With that image, I am in love with her, again.

“Your standard phonograph record until the 1950s, or the age Diana Ross turned in 2022,”

lol

Reading it, it does sound like an unnecessary dig at Ross.

(But if given the choice between 90 and 78, I would've guessed she's 90.)

That host is unwatchable.

As for the Chuck D question, I'd have missed with 14 clues.

That’s OK Ms Ross, we still think you are a beautiful lady!!!

BTW, went to a Temptations concert a month or so ago. The only original Temptation is Otis Williams and he is now 80. Amazing to see him on stage. Diana Ross went on some of the Motown bus tours with the Temptations. Motown put out some great music in its day.

Things people are demanded to know is getting scary. During China’s Cultural Revolution, people were randomly selected and instructed to quote out of Mao’s Little Red Book, and if they couldn’t, they would be beaten, sometimes fatally. Is that where we’re headed?

I saw it. People don’t know about 78 RPM records. Ok

But why are they referencing Diana Ross’ age? How obtuse.

Diana Ross is basically an ahole that treats everyone around her like crap. That's pretty well known. She even gypped the Supremes out of a bunch of money.

78.26 rpm to be more exact. I learned something today:

Earliest speeds of rotation varied widely, but by 1910 most records were recorded at about 78 to 80 rpm. In 1925, 78.26 rpm was chosen as a standard for motorized phonographs, because it was suitable for most existing records, and was easily achieved using a standard 3600-rpm motor and 46-tooth gear (78.26 = 3600/46). Thus these records became known as 78s (or “seventy-eights”). This term did not come into use until after World War II when a need developed to distinguish the 78 from other newer disc record formats.

Something similar happened several weeks ago. The final Jeopardy clue was: "In 2022, this American singer became the oldest entertainer to be nominated for a Grammy Award at the age of 95." Two of the tree contestants responded with "Who is Dianna Ross?"

(The correct response: "Who is Tony Bennett?")
