In a viral TikTok video, a former Walmart door greeter says he would not stop customers who stole expensive childcare items, like baby formula or Pampers.
Brandon Tamayo (user @brandontamayo02) stitched a video from user @commlion, including the audio, “If you see anyone stealing, no you didn’t.” He then goes on to share his experience working as a door greeter at Walmart, someone who greets customers as they enter and exit, and checks receipts as they leave.
“Every time I saw a customer, mostly a woman, and I checked the receipt, and I saw Pampers or baby formula that was not on the receipt, I just said, ‘Have a great day,’” Tamayo says.
He explains that he never stopped these customers because childcare products can often be difficult for people to afford. Walmart also did not offer any rewards to employees who stopped customers from stealing.
“Why? Because they’re expensive and kids are expensive, in general,” he says. “And my store, and the company in general, we didn’t really get a reward for the amount of stuff we caught people stealing.”
“Did I care? No, because I was making $11.50 at that time,” he says.
His video received over 1.4 million views and sparked debate about stealing in the comments.
Many users praised Tamayo for avoiding customers who stole baby products.
“Not all heroes wear capes,” one user said.
“We need to nominate you for the Nobel peace prize lol,” another said.
Some users echoed Tamayo’s sentiment that employees are not paid enough to deal with people who steal items.
“Walmart employees don’t get paid enough to fight with people who are stealing,” one user said.
“When I work for Walmart I didn’t care about it because I didn’t get enough money for that,” another said.

*** I refuse to let them check my receipt ***
I used to say, “You have no legal authority over me” when refusing. Now all the greeters recognize me at my local Walmart, and don’t bother to ask.
They always say, “have a nice day.”, even when I sounded a little cranky back when I still got asked to show my receipt.
Cherry picking. A store manager told me that only certain people in asset protection and management are authorized to talk to thieves and have them prosecuted. Door greeters who are not authorized report immediately to those who are. And notice the cameras all over those stores. They’re being replaced with much higher resolution devices and many other gadgets.
Because of the pro-drug regime, this is a time of transition for stores. Before long, you’ll see that drug users will be lower class residents everywhere (more watched, more controlled, less often armed than now, etc.). It’s already happening, but most people don’t know how.
If someone is suspected of theft but not caught the first time, that person will be under more surveillance during subsequent entries. And yes, the system for that is being developed. A system is also being developed for others who cause other kinds of disruptions. Too many recent druggies, too many losses and liabilities.
If you want to stop paying the bills for that, start the war on drugs that was promised and never initiated.
I know of a couple of different Walmart stores in my area, where police have pursued and stopped thieves after they left. The proof was already electronically obtained. That’s the near future. And thieves are banned from entering the stores again. Before long, all stores will be equipped such, that a thief won’t enter any Walmart store anywhere again. Same with some of the other retailers.
Parking lots? Also more surveillance with license plate readers and recording.
It appears that in the near future, criminals will starve. Also, look for more institutions to be built.
Upbringing, pride and self-respect.
I’ve worked for as little as $1.80/hr. No matter what the job was or how much I was being paid, I tried to do the best job possible.

It’s why he drove the pick-up to work every day.
