This is a video of an interview with Tim Allen and Richard Karn about their new show "More Power". The interviewer asked questions about the movie "Lightyear". Some quotes from the interview:

'It's a wonderful story, it just doesn't seem to have any connection to the toy,' Allen said. 'It has no relationship to Buzz.'

'We talked about this many years ago…but the brass that did the first four movies is not this. It's a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.

'I've stayed out of this.'

'There's really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody. I'm not sure what the idea—I'm a plot guy. It would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it's not a big adventure story.'

“Tim Allen REACTS”

He REACTED with capital letters? Did he REACT after he DROVE to the place where he REACTED and then PARKED the car? And then he DRANK some coffee?

Why do blogger dudes capitalize verbs? It doesn’t provide emphasis - it just makes the blogger look even more like a tool.

I haven't seen the film but based on the trailers I think Allen is dead on in his observation that it's not really Buzz the toy. It's some guy in a star wars sort of setting. If it was a movie about the Buzz Lightyear character as it always has been it would be some goofy old style Flash Gordon kind of thing with crazy aliens and silly cartoonish hijinx with a clueless but overly courageous and loyal Buzz at the center of it all. In other words, no message telling us to do better, just a bit of fun.

How can they be surprised after making a movie named after a character that people love but having him be totally different would be unwelcomed by those fans?

Many sequels are duds, when mere formulas replace real creativity, and also when they have no story connection to the original. “Lightyear” has both of those problems.

“Woke” has started to more and more replace creativity at Disney.

Not surprised. Dizney creativity was already running low when they started buying as many of their annimation and story competitors as they could. If you’ve ever seen the kids and teen TV stuff done by Dizney today, its all story formulas (with too much woke and sexul innuendo) and has very little creativity.
