The massive Boomer retirement and die-off. It’s been predicted for years.
Many employers are too specific in their requirements to fill a position. Unless you have the specific skill set for the opening, they will not consider you. And Employers seem very unwilling to train people to fill a position.
Yep. I retired a year ago. I’m now 68. My wife was a stay at home ACTIVE grandmother. The fun part of it is I no longer fear April 15th. None of my income is taxable at the state level any more, and my “income” is so low, I don’t have to worry about federal taxes either. Rather than relying on “income” to retire, we established a low cost of living. e.g. Paying off all debt. In a low property tax state, living is actually very cheap. In our case, about 1/4 of our SS payments alone.

Not according to this chart, which is animated. It shows pre-senior population rising as the years go on.
I think the following URL is the longest I’ve ever seen, but it works for me.
Freshly minted college grads can’t find jobs.
My retirement date is Aug 1 this year and only being 65 I’m going Galt! F Dem/RINOs all!
Along with their kids getting their inheritances they’re living off of, and houses they’re living in. I know of a couple myself.
I'm turning 66 in August. December 9th will be 31 years with my current employer. I enjoy my work. 100% remote home office. It's all software engineering. I work 40 to 60 hours a week now. My wife turns 64 in July. She has been a police/fire/EMS dispatcher since 1994. She is the senior employee at the local PD. She still works 4 x 10 hour shifts each week.
The "hiring for all positions" signs are in places all over my local area. That's usually a sign of imminent demise of a business. My favorite local "family restaurant" just went away. I've been eating there for over 20 years. The owner was just frustrated with the inability to hire staff. He had reduced hours from 7 AM to 9 PM to 7 AM to 3 PM to deal with the problem, but that still didn't help. He's a "boomer" as well. He decided retirement was the answer.
But I don't think that explains the dearth of front line employees in fast food, retail, etc. Very few boomers held those positions. Our favorite family owned Mexican restaurant has had to open only for lunch - closes down for supper. Can't find help. They had plenty of employees (not boomers) before. Where did they all go?
Young people don’t want a regular job. One of my nephews ambitions is to be a blogger and “not have to pay taxes”. LOL I kid you not. And he is a really smart kid with straight A’s and a wiz with computers.
