I liked Jack Germond a lot better, he was a real reporter, like Robert Novak and his partner Rollie Evans.

Shields was a political operative that became a talking head, like Carville or Stephanopoulos and

RE: Jack Germond....
Haven’t thought of him for a while now. Was affable guy on the air.

I remember his line “the Presidential address to Congress always is more or less forgotten and ignored. Like wetting your pants while you’re wearing a dark blue suit. It gives you a warm feeling but practically no one else notices it.”

A panel member said: “Hey, Jack. Are you speaking from personal experience?”

Intense yet thick liberal columnist. Prototype for today’s leftists.

Shields was a liberal pundit/journalist who considered corrupt political machines like Daley's Chicago - as acceptable & normal American landscape. Same mentality as today's journalists treating Dem corruption & cheating as being above reproach.

The Left awarded him the Eternal Democrat Vote.

Like they do with all dead people.

You know I dislike a lot of people...decent and nice people too.

It's an individual thing....I guess.

There's a few I would as you did...say "Good riddance"...but I did not know the man.....So I will stay silent......on that.

Old school democrat from when America was still America. Loathsome opinions and views but you could have a convivial beer with him after work. Ex Marine. They don’t make them like that anymore.

Old school liberal who was an example of how a person can be wrong 100% of the time without being obnoxious about it. Today’s progressives have added obnoxious to their witch’s brew of wrongheadedness.

I am not sure what surprises me more to hear that Shields or Woodruff was still alive.

He shouldn’t have been on public television all those years if he was a liberal.

"I liked Jack Germond a lot better, he was a real reporter, like Robert Novak and his partner Rollie Evans."

Jack Germond you could have a beer with.

Screw Novak into the ground, he let Armitrage withhold the exonerating evidence that cleared Scooter Libby, ie, Armitrage did it, in Frank Luntz's ballroom with a candlestick.

Not saying Libby didn't deserve it, after snogging that NYT wench, but withholding evidence when Armitrage was to blame, Novak will be the welcoming committee for Dick. "Gosh, Bob, it's so hot here...A man of my fat stature could sure use a cold drink of water..."

LOL, cold drink of water.
I hadn’t thought of the Libby affair.

I liked the old school reporters and columnists like Joe Sobraon, William Safire, John P. Roche or Charly Reed a lot better than today’s breed.

Fred Reed is another good writer, he can rile you but he’s competent and articulate.

Fred Reed still round?
I thought he had retired from writing and\or passed on.

Yes, his writing was\is at times aggravating.
