Ahem....speaking of ice, that reminds me of ice skating. The grandkids and I started ice skating lessons.
Well, last Sat, no clue what happened, I went down, heard/felt a crunch and snap in my wrist area. Instructor said “You ok?” I said, “Nope I broke it.”
And boy did I do a number! Go big or go home.
Think of the ends of the arm bones like a daisy you push down to flatten the petals.
I kinda knew it was bad, I got super nauseated...and sweaty, in what, a 40-45’ice rink heh heh?
Surgery on Fri- a plate and pins. Who knew ice was soooo hard lol. (Oh, hubs, when he split his scalp open).
I am not a quitter....yet lol. Helmet, check, wrist braces next.
Spokeshave...you changed your name?
Melian....best memes ever.
LJ- another anesthesia to make more air puffs in my brain.
Praying you’ll recover soon. Ouch!
I hope you feel better soon.
Get well soon.
And stop falling down, that’s an order, FreeQ. :)
"Who knew ice was soooo hard lol. (Oh, hubs, when he split his scalp open)."
(Raising hand) Me too, almost. Scalp no, skull yes. Some will say that explains a lot. π But I was a kid. Only time ever hospitalized, and they didn't do a thing for me for 3 days, except wake me up rudely every time I even thought about dozing off. It happened when I wasn't even skating, but talking with a friend at the side of the pond. Hit and run speed skater tripped me, then disappeared when he saw me go down. I had to walk home 4 blocks on my skates, life was tough back then! Laid down, got nauseated, barfed and got escorted to the ER tout suite. Missed about 3 weeks of school, but had to do homework the whole time.
What a rotten year for you. Covid and 2 surgeries. (And your Dad.)
Good luck on this new surgery.
Get well soon!
Got a new phone and e-mail so couldn't log in as spokeshave.
(The reason was I had major surgery and lost a lot of memory....took me several months before I could drive....still have issues with spelling and word choice.)
So I started again as Spokeshave Returns.
I’ve been under anesthesia about 25 times in my life...and I’m still sharp. You will be fine. You have brain cells to spare, clever girl. And your adventurous spirit and sense of humor will carry you through with style.
Sending prayers that all goes perfectly on Friday.
I kinda knew it was bad, I got super nauseated...and sweaty, in what, a 40-45βice rink heh heh?

I went down while shoveling snow on my deck in a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers in December of 2020. It was supposed to be a quick 10 minute job after getting off the treadmill. My shovel went forward and my feet went backward on a patch that was more slippery than I realized. I knew I broke my wrist too because I was immediately nauseous. I laid in the snow in summer clothes for a few minutes to make the sweats and the urge to vomit go away. I had a continuation of an online bridge tournament game within an hour so I played in that first then got a ride to the hospital a few hours later. I know EXACTLY what you felt, but mine was a very clean break and I ended up cutting the bright pink cast off after two weeks because it was too hot and interfered with life. It has healed beautifully and had no lasting impact on my golf game, which was my biggest concern. Yours was a much more serious break. Condolences, my friend.
Oh NO! Petey, so sorry to hear of your accident. Can I put in a prayer request for your surgery on the prayer thread?
Oh no! I’ll be praying for surgery and healing to go well.
I do admire your adventurous spirit and being able to spend fun time with your grands. I love playing/doing stuff with the kids as much as I am able.
Oh my petey! Prayers that it heals up quickly.
Dang, Petey! I’m so sorry that happened.
Prayers will be sent for your surgeon and a successful outcome Friday!
Oh Petey, sorry you broke your wrist! Hang in there (but not literally or it will hurt worse). Take care. π
Ouch, ouch, ouch!
Reminds me of the time, in the mid 80s, when I lived in a third floor condo. I was taking a bag of garbage to the dumpster. It was winter. Icy, of course. I got about 1/3 of the way across the parking lot and ended up on my but.
Got up and tried again. made it about 3 steps, then boom! Back on my butt.
Third time, I just crawled, bag of trash in hand, to the dumpster, then stood up and tossed it.
No major injuries, but I was a lot younger then too.
Aw Petey, just reading this now! So sorry! Get well soon!
Ouch ouch ouch cringe ouch. Prayers for wrist healing!
