I for one, didn't think this would take off when it was introduced. Yet here is is.

Now, the network will span 34 miles and have a total of 55 stations, including ones that will serve the Harry Reid International Airport...

Las Vegas is one of the few cities where this can be done. It’s not on a river or the coast so the water table isn’t an issue, and there’s few if any conflicting tunnels, shafts, sewers, or conduits at the depth the subway will run. They’re not boring through bedrock either.

I've gone to Las Vegas a lot and I like the experience of walking through it up on the sidewalks, casinos and pedestrian overpasses. I'll work my way from where I am staying south to Mandalay Bay, up north to about the Circus Circus / Sahara and then back down south to where I am staying. It's a good 6-10 miles of walking if you work your way through the casinos.

For Fremont Street Experience, that's a full day all by itself and I'll take a taxi up there. Some rough neighborhoods up that way if you stray too far.

What happens to the monorail?

Dingy Harry did the country the favor of kicking the bucket. Las Vegas did him the favor of renaming McCarran International Airport for him. Don’t ask why.

Whoever designed the LV monorail without running it to the airport was either an idiot or bribed/threatened by the taxi companies. The one place everyone wants to go and they don’t extend it.

Uber drivers driving Teslas slowly through narrow tunnels is not what was initially proposed.

This is really not a transportation solution. It is just another form of entertainment in Vegas.

The monorail, even if it did go to the airport, would be a boondoggle. It goes to the very back of the casinos, so going from one casino to another requires two verrry long walks even with the monorail.
