The M-16 kind of fits that description. I mean, it’s an assault rifle, and it’s full-sized. It’s not what used to be called a “main battle rifle” like the M1 or the FAL, but the term seems to fit.

Years ago, there was some Guard troop on a local radio show. He was saying that he carried an M-16A2 in the sandbox, by preference. He said one young troop once said “Lemme have a look at that musket, Pops.”
