“Love it and miss having a pet to come home to.”
I am rethinking my original decision that we should stop getting pets so we can travel about, etcetera. It sure does make coming home lonely, like you say.
Last night I only took Edsel to bed. So he didn’t play like crazy like he normally does. And he ended up laying on me most of the night, purring his head off. Each one might have a more friendly personality without the other siblings around.

We’ve noticed that each time we lost a cat the remaining cats’ personalities changed noticeably.
After our last fur baby passed, and I took it REALLY hard, we’d said the same....no more pets to tie us down, keep us from traveling, stealing our hearts, etc.....
But....then...as if puppy-heaven sent....we adopted a sweet boy who was being fostered....he’s the perfect size (11 pounds, soaking wet), he’s already very well trained, non-shedding...and....the most loyal companion, ever.
Now, we’ve adjusted any travel to by-car, and, pet friendly, ONLY! He’s even a great traveler!
However...since he’s so sweet and well behaved....we have a few family members who’ve offered to keep him, should we have to fly (ugh....hope not!), or go somewhere not pet friendly.

Sibling rivalry isn’t just for humans.
I think Edsel have found his forever home.
Sweet story about your pet!
