I went to the grocery store today for my weekly shopping, as I have every Saturday for at least 30 years.
Since the advent of covid, the availability of certain products could be delayed and I have learned to normalize this (normalcy bias?). But the product, it does not matter what it is, always became available.
But within the last several weeks and most certainly today, the empty shelves, the stores desperate attempt to just shift product to make the shelves appear full, has become alarming. The product is not always available.
Today, for the first time, I realized that we could experience real hunger, the emptiness was indisputable. In this land that has always had plenty, I realized that we do not have plenty.
I felt guilty for feeling fear because, I know we still have more than other countries, that food is available. But shelves don’t stock themselves. I think we may be in for a bumpy ride.
Diesel fuels the country, both rail and trucks.
Warnings are being sent that diesel not only will go sky high, but will become scarce.
We had better prepare.
