And in the wake of his defeat, Bush’s political future and the survival of his family’s brand are very much in doubt.
"History has shown there can be second acts in American politics, so I wouldn’t say never. But I think that he is politically greatly diminished from the results last night," longtime Texas based GOP strategist Brendan Steinhauser told Fox News.
And he predicted that in the short term "I think it’s more likely he goes into the private sector."
Matt Mackowiak, a veteran Austin, Texas-based Republican consultant and chair of Travis County GOP, said, "You can never count out anyone who can raise money, but George P. Bush’s political future is uncertain. I expect him to finish his term and return to private business as he considers his future. It’s not clear when another Bush family member will win elected office."
Bush is the son of former two-term Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, nephew to former President George W. Bush, and grandson of the late former President George H.W. Bush, whose move to the Lone Star State in 1948 ignited a new era in Texas Republican politics. The elder Bush won election to Congress in Texas before moving through government appointments and eventually being elected vice president in 1980, then president in 1992. His son George W. Bush was elected and re-elected governor before winning the White House in 2000.
The Bush family was GOP aristocracy for decades, but the brand lost its luster after President George W. Bush finished his second term with approval ratings well into negative territory. And the Bush family’s well documented war of words with former President Donald Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primaries – when Trump repeatedly belittled, humiliated and crushed rival Jeb Bush en route to the nomination further diminished the

“And all he got for his money was 3 delegates, and a lousy ¡Jeb! tee shirt.”
Don’t forget the awesome guacamole bowls. /s
Wasn’t George P. one of the little brown ones?
George and Jeb have pretty much jokified the Shrub persona. Now if only FOX would get rid of Tokyo Rove and ban Linda Graham.
Lol. Forget? Never.
Somewhere in Texas there is a storeroom filled to the rafters with dusty cobweb covered guac bowls labeled "Made in China".
His daddy, Governor Jeb, Nikki’ed the Five Flags Over Florida display at the state Capitol in the dead of night when retreat was just a gleam in the eye apprentice Rinos.
George P., forget politics and move forward with your life's work. You will be happy; we will be happy.
The Bushes have gone the way of the Kennedys and Roosevelts.
Man’s gotta know his limitations. In this case George P. Bush’s was Texas Land Commissioner. He has reached his Peter Principle.
Maybe he’ll do better if he changes his name to George Romney/s
A lot of folks in Texas think the Alamo stunt was the end of the road for him. I was on the phone yesterday with someone who realized she had not yet gone to the polls to vote against George, specifically because of the Alamo. Hung up to go vote.
George P. is probably the most genuinely conservative person ever named Bush, and if it weren't for his last name, people would've judged him on his merits and likely found him a worthwhile candidate. He's been referred to in the Texas press as a "Trump-supporting, hard-right social conservative."
Unfortunately, voters have come to associate the name "Bush" with wimpy moderates.
Yep. Plus his second worst was signing the Simpson-Mazzoli Act in 1986 giving amnesty to millions of illegals.
W and Jeb sided with the most crooked politician of all time- Hillary- the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. P may claim to be a Trumper, but I seriously doubt it’s sincere.
All the Bushes are nice people, at least compared to the Kennedy clan but the American public is tired of them. At least for now.
I may have missed the story. What is the relationship between Bush and the Alamo?
No dynasties. That goes for ALL politicians not just for the families of those you do not like.
4th generation, his great grandfather was Prescott Bush, US Senator for Connecticut
How much did he lose by? The story never says. Great Reporting Fox-Not!
I liked what he campaigned on. I liked his positions if it is true. He lost the election because his last name is Bush. Bush senior and junior whom I supported 100% betrayed our nation. Thus I as not a fan of Ken Paxton could not vote for the third generation of Bushes.
