There are a great many Sci-Fi/Horror films that offer examples.

No doubt that experts who've spent a lifetime studying such things can eyeball a pretty good guess.
But for scientific purposes they'd need to do tests, measurable, quantifiable & repeatable.
And there are many such tests available, each to cross-check others.
