Israel rejected the King that God sent to them, Jesus Christ the true Messiah: “But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar” (John 19:15).

From that day the Jew has been under Caesar, except that Caesar now wears a mitre and carries a staff and claims to be the “vicar of Christ.”

Which was never so obvious as in the era when the Holy Roman Empire reigned supreme..

The only difference was now they eventually only controlled the barbarians states instead of the whole Mediterranean ones.

Oh, while the Eastern Empire sill controlled the remainder of the Mediterranean, as they watched their grip slowly crumble away. Until the mid 15th century when the Islamic Caliphate struck their final blow on Constantinople.
