This new cartridge has chamber pressures substantially higher than a lot of sporting rounds that have traditionally been known as barrel burners. I have to think these are going to need very frequent barrel changes.
“I have to think these are going to need very frequent barrel changes.”
exactly what the DOD guy reported on Guns N Ammo.
Yeah, basically a short action .270 magnum at 80,000 psi, with a stainless steel belt on the base of each cartridge.
Not cheap to produce, I’d guess.
They are I guess doing this to ostensibly increase the range to jump up from 400 to 650 meters. They could have just put a 20 inch barrel on the M4.
Sounds like a way for the government to get rid of .223 and .556 ammo. Anyone fire .223? Kiss it bye bye.
Especially in this era of overwhelming firepower. I don’t expect these specialized rounds will be cheap.
Probably.
Ever piss on an M-60 barrel to cool it down so you can swap out barrels?
