[In] “Ariel Phenomenon,” director Randall Nickerson looks at one of the most famous cases of the second type involving both craft and occupants: the 1994 mass sighting at the Ariel School in Zimbabwe, Africa. It is a portrayal of a potentially “alien” event, told from a decidedly human angle, including the powerful feelings such an event often leaves behind in those touched by the experience.

Nickerson spends a significant amount of the film’s 100+ minute run time exploring the negative side of the Ariel School experience for many of the witnesses, particularly feelings of trauma. This includes students who witnessed the event, school staff who now often express regret at having not taken the children or their feelings serious enough at the time, and even a BBC reporter who risked his entire career to cover the sighting.

“I spoke with over forty past students and staff, but not all of them were willing to speak on camera about the experience,” Nickerson says [...] “That told me, as a director and a human, that there’s something here.”
“Once I got to Zimbabwe, three of the teachers who were there at the time of the event were still teaching at Ariel, and I was amazed that they were still convinced it had actually happened,” he adds. “I found the names of the children who were at the school that year, and at that moment it was like “Oh, I can find these people.” Facebook had just started really growing, and none of this could have happened without Facebook.”
“I started contacting the former students and teachers, as well as others who were in the region who’d seen things that week; there were a number of events reported during the days leading up to the Ariel sighting,”

Thanks for posting this…I was planning on watching this sometime this weekend. Have you seen it yet? If so, what are your thoughts? I first heard about this sighting in the Phenomenon movie and was very interested in learning more about it.
BKMRK
This and the Westall sighting in Australia are the two most profound examples of UFO sightings (in that they were both mass sightings in which children and teachers recounted the experiences over many years).
Not sure if you have seen this article? Very good accounts of the incident.

A bright light in the sky... Never seen that before? Actually, I lived near an airport so I saw bright lights in the sky all the time, it’s called a plane, or a jet, or a helicopter.
They all saw The Little Mermaid??

Lately, it’s better for kids to get abducted by aliens than to have to sit through a Disney production.;-)
Of course, just because they "believe" they saw something doesn't mean that it wasn't a kind of mass hallucination.
But whatever it was, real or not, it was interesting as hell.
BTW, helps to keep an open mind about this stuff. Who knows what's going on.
Of course, we don't know how mass hallucinations occur or why people/children might see the same things (saucers and gray aliens in this case), but such things are not any more or less likely than REAL aliens from another dimension or star system.
Thx. Excellent article.
Agreed—the Zimbabwe school sighting is a very strong case.
John Mack has had some excellent discussion in his books.
The folks who think this is all about Deep State technology are proven wrong by this case.
The aliens seen on psilocybin trips have very specific characteristics—Terence McKenna has provided a lot of details for those who are interested.
This case was totally different.
The psilocybin “aliens” include not just one flying saucer—what you see is an entire super high tech alien civilization (or many) far from Earth.
That said, I was using the example of psilocybin merely to illustrate that we have no idea of all the possible explanations of what happened at the Ariel School.
Of course, it may have merely been something as simple as UFOs and grays.
Understood.
While some psychedelics have included flying saucers among their visions I am not familiar with any case where the gray aliens were part of those particular visions.
There have been so many gray alien sightings around the world that we have a detailed knowledge of their characteristics—the large black eyes that seem to communicate visions to humans, the small height, the tiny long fingers, the skin that seems almost artificial or clothes-like, etc etc etc.
I am convinced they are not drug induced hallucinations of any kind.
Terence McKenna has described in great detail aliens seen during drug trips—DMT generates one type of alien, psilocybin another, for example.
IIRC Jacques Vallee did a documentary video on a contact story in Argentina with a young gaucho named Juan Perez that involved Indians (related to Perez) who had the same kind of experiences. I can't remember if the ayahuasca/gray alien nexus was in the documentary or in some related follow-on research that I had done.
