I would also advise anybody with room to plant a garden, small or large, to plant heirloom seeds/plants instead of hybrids. Almost all of my garden veggies this year are heirloom so that I can save seeds.

Planting heirlooms is particularly good if you are saving seeds. If you’re worried more about disease and not saving seeds than a hybrid is better as they fight disease better because they’re bred to do so. Hybrids can also produce better.

I grow a Chinese hybrid bell pepper. It produces six times what an heirloom pepper plant will produce and they taste far better and retain their sweetness even after freezing.

There are also hybrid cucumbers that will self polinate.
