A handful of Florida residents are suing the state and its Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, over the decision to dissolve Walt Disney Co.'s special self-governing district near Orlando, saying the move will saddle them with the company’s $1-billion debt burden.(snip)
The taxpayer lawsuit asked the court to find the law dismantling Reedy Creek as unconstitutional. The 11-page complaint alleges that the state violated legal obligations forbidding it from dissolving the district without resolving its outstanding debt. The complaint is filed on behalf of four Florida residents — three in Osceola County and one in Orange County.
“The stated and undisputed reason behind the bill is to punish Disney World and subsequently Florida taxpayers,” the complaint said. “Even though the governor and certain Republican lawmakers welcome a fight with Disney on this matter, they appear to not want to follow constitutional guidelines and previous legally enforceable agreements involving over $1 billion in bond issuances.”(snip)
A representative for DeSantis, Christina Pushaw, denied that the elimination of the district would increase taxes for Floridians and said that Disney will pay its fair share of taxes, describing suggestions otherwise as “wishful forecasting.”
“The details on the Reedy Creek plan have yet to be released,” she said in an email. “They will be soon. The local residents of Orange and Osceola counties will not have to bear the burden of Disney’s debt, as the governor has stated. And, there is no scenario where the state would inherit Disney’s debt — this is misinformation.”

sorry, no standing, NEXT!
DeSantis said last week on Laura’s show that they knew from the beginning that additional legislation would be required.
Disney is making bond payments now for traditional county infrastructure built to support the park. The legislature can just direct those payments continue under the same terms. Might have to redefine some legal terms, but the court will find that continuing the payments best serves the bondholders and nothing would be gained by making the state sell new bonds to pay off the old ones.
Only libs can’t understand basic math.
tax payers = leftist plants for leftist attorneys, encouraged/funded by leftist organisations.
This will be revealed in time.
...that is all
Sounds like we are going to need to build hundreds of new Court Houses, EVERYONE is going to court and opening a judgement demanding money from people they don’t like I would saw the profession of lawyer shows quite a bit of promise.
However, I can see where an 'ok groomer' emoji would be
most useful to represent demented democrats..
Yes, seems like the media leapt to the presumption that Disney gets to walk away without paying the taxes, although DeSantis and the legislature believe they will still have to pay them.
do they have standing for such a lawsuit?
4 Unhinged Leftists consumed with Liberal Lunacy consumed with anger and imagined power to dictate their will on the people of a state. This will not go well for them They are likely to be awakened to the fact that their personal political desires are not primary at a state level.
Bet they all have kin and other Disney connections. Florida taxpayers want to tax the hide of Disney. They need simmer down before it gets ugly.
Florida can tax Disney and it’s huge property holdings any way they want to.
Disney has no idea what is coming down the pike. Florida residents are outraged at the games the groomers are playing.....
And leftists…..
Ima Putz, Heza Putz, Sheza Putz, and Goofy.
Dismissing special privileges which nobody else has access to is unconstitutional?
On what planet? And how do they think Illinoisans feel? We’re saddled with far more than that thanks to unfunded pension liabilities, which are apparently still growing.
Disney has lost more then 30 billion in market cap since their woke crusade began....whats another billion. Im sure Disney can be persuaded to pay THEIR DEBT.
Can’t pay the bond debt? I’m sure there is legal recourse to start seizing assets to sell to settle the debt.
