A church I attended in Texas had a guy give a talk on how he lived with such a small monthly budget. He wasn’t a poor guy, but he liked to keep things cheap.
One of his tricks was to only buy things that were on sale or that he had a coupon for. Then they made whatever they could figure out how to make from whatever they had in the fridge. He said they had some awfully strange sandwiches at the end of a shopping week.
He also said there were some days when, after the register finished counting coupons, he could pay for the food for his large family with a $10. His goal was that they would owe him money.
So, for what it’s worth, it’s apparently a lifestyle.
One of my neighbors is a “super couponer,” buying large amounts of whatever she can get for almost nothing. She has a garage sale once a month to turn the goods back into cash.
