1) The Hitchhiker’s Guide to What the Leaked SCOTUS Draft Opinion Means for Congress.
The leak of the draft opinion from the High Court could have profound consequences across the street at the US Capitol.

2) Regardless of the motives surrounding such an extraordinary leak, the prospective decision becomes an immediate flashpoint in the midterm elections. Democrats will undoubtedly use to leak to stoke their base and get them to the polls.
3) There is tremendous pent-up anger by the left after the confirmation of three justices under former President Trump.
Some Republicans will concede that being able to push to overturn Roe helped them politically for years - even though they got little policy benefit.
4) Now Democrats may be on the other side of that and can reap the gains politically - even though they vehemently oppose the policy.
Democrats will point to what they will term as tactics used by Republicans to achieve a pro-life majority on the Court which overturns Roe.
5) First, then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) refused to even grant a hearing to Attorney General Merrick Garland when President Obama nominatee him for the Supreme Court in 2016.
6) Then, in 2017, McConnell used the “nuclear option” (invented by Democrats) to confirm Justice Neil Gorsuch.
That was followed by the noxious confirmation process for Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018.
7) Then the Senate managed to confirm Justice Amy Coney Barrett just before the 2020 election.
Inevitibaly, the leak will spur Democrats to push for passage of a bill to codify Roe.
8) The House approved the Women’s Health Protection Act in September of last year in response to the Texas bill to bar abortions after six weeks. The vote was 218-211. This leak will compel Senate Democrats to try to pass this measure. However, it will face a filibuster.
9) In turn, this re-ignites to effort to end the filibuster or lower the threshold to end a filibuster from 60 yeas to 51. That means all attention will immediately turn to, you guessed it, Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ).
10) Democrats would need the votes of Manchin and Sinema to execute yet another “nuclear option” in the Senate to alter the filibuster. Democrats could execute this parliamentary manauever if they stick together.
11) So while tonight’s leak is seismic for the Supreme Court, the fault lines also run directly under 1st St., NE and into the heart of the United States Capitol.

GOP MO Rep Hartzler: This leak is outrageous and dangerous.
I pray and remain hopeful the Supreme Court stays true to this potential decision, but this unprecedented, intentional leak is malicious and threatens the independence of our highest court.

Any protesting Democrats arrested for trespassing should get the new standard of months in jail.
I just hope screaming is all they do. Could they persuade the justices to change their opinion? Threats? Pack the court?

I was doing an audit in Thailand once, and we had an offshore facility & onshore warehouse in Songkhla, a small town in the southern part of Thailand. The locals took us to a restaurant right on the beach, just feet from the water. They literally set up folding chairs & tables in the sand.
They sauteed those huge shrimp, right out of the gulf, in garlic. We ate until we were stuffed. And on a hot, very humid Thailand night, the cold beer was especially good. One of the best meals I ever had.

Let’s be clear: The right to an abortion is sacred.
Democrats have to act quickly - get rid of the filibuster to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act + finally codify Roe into law.
We cannot afford to wait.

If Roe is overturned, could be hard for GOP in purple states at state level. But it will pass. Some compromise will be reached, and it will be different in various states. Abortion is not issue in Western Europe b/c they had the debate that Roe prevented - and then they moved on.
When they started making it legal to kill a newborn, they went too far for most people. I remember Nancy refused to disavow that when asked.
