Not entirely sure if this is what you need, but if you have a list of chapters, for example, and you want them to appear sequentially, make chapter #1 "01", then chapter #2 becomes "02", etc.

Don't use quotation marks, though.

The same goes for a list of books, or songs.

Computers want to arrange things alphabetically, so that numbering those things with 01 *.*, 02 *.*, 03 *.*, will put your list in the order you want, regardless of the titles.
