With just under 95% of votes reported, DeWine accounted for 47.6%, Renacci 27.6%, Blystone 22.4% and Hood 2.4%. If those percentages hold, DeWine will win the Republican nomination with one of the lowest totals since 1940. Jim Rhodes got the nod in 1986 with 48.2% approval, Charles Taft in 1952 with 47.5% of the vote. Only James Stewart, in 1944, had fewer partisan votes with 34.2%.
The difference: Rhodes, Taft and Stewart were not incumbents (although Rhodes had served four previous terms) but, DeWine is.
