Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill creating a new agency to target voter fraud that critics say is unnecessary and could be used for partisan gains.
DeSantis on Monday signed legislation intended to tighten safeguards against voter fraud while establishing the Office of Election Crimes and Security. The Republican governor's signature is the latest red state response to former President Donald Trump's baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen. But opponents call the new office a solution in search of a problem.
The Office of Election Crimes and Security will be set up in the Florida Department of State and will be the first agency in the state dedicated to investigating election crimes.
Speaking at an event in Spring Hill, DeSantis said the new office is the most important part of the bill and will give teeth to other provisions. DeSantis said the office is the first of its kind in state government that will be able to prosecute voter fraud, and Florida voters could be confident their votes will be counted.
"The fact of the matter is when people see something that they think may violate the law, and you call the supervisor of elections - we'll they're not investigators," said DeSantis. "They're not law enforcement. What are you gonna do you? Call the State Attorney's Office? They do other crimes."
The Campaign Legal Center last month said the "new partisan agency" would "open the door for voter intimidation and harassment." Florida's governor will be allowed to appoint their own officers in every regional office of the State Department of Law Enforcement, taking away oversight held by nonpartisan election administrators and giving it to partisan politicians, the center said.

I believe em! If anybody knows about unnecessary election policies that lead to partisan gain, it’s a Democrat!
Florida is awesome!
Problem is this won’t work. They can easily cheat in Florida, they just need to send down their people in the vote counting areas to take over and along with them the Biden Administration can send along federal agents to “replace” these state election watchers, and if the watchers object they will be threatened with obstruction. Sorry but these “election police” are just gonna be rent-a-cops and no rent-a-cop is gonna risk getting arrested and tried for federal obstruction.
Completely and forever ban: Mail In Voting, Drop Boxes, Ballot Harvesting, purge the voter rolls and prosecute/convict/incarcerate, for a long time, a few folks who think they’re untouchable and about 75% of the problem goes away. If not more.
Way to go Debbie Downer.
He’s doing something. And it just might be enough that the Fed’s don’t want the bad publicity.
I’m just being realistic, an arrest by the Feds is not something most people will risk, and I bet you the cheaters know this
WaPo, NYT, Reuters, CNN, MSNBC, AP, LA Times, SF Chronicle, BBC, France 24, DW, etc: Fake News.
Whence came thou?
So at least one governor is putting his foot down on voter and counting fraud. That’s got to scare the hell out of liberals who want every state to use the California election model.
Do you have a complete thought you are trying to convey?
He just keeps marching along, one step after the other. And on a day when the world has turned upside down, I tell ya, because Musk bought Twitter. Two guys going in the same direction in different vehicles.
Somebody has to go after the ‘RATS. They’re getting away with murder. Bonzo and Holder’s “seventeen intelligence communities” sure as hell aren’t going to do anything to them. They only go after Americans.
The Feds have no jurisdiction. Elections are run by the states. If anything the Feds would be the ones arrested for interfering in a state election.
If the feds send FBI agents to guard doors to vote counting areas, any Florida state employee would get arrested trying to challenge them
You know this how? What if the local sheriff was escorting them?
If that’s the case, then what’s your solution?
