"I heard from multiple people at TED that Gates still had half billion short against Tesla, which is why I asked him, so it's not exactly top secret," Musk said in the Tweet.

Hey Ann, a 5 second search came up with the answer. They don't dump them.
No one asks, Who is releasing these phone calls? First McCarthy, now Musk.
He can be a genius for exploiting it for his personal gain.
And yes.....Gates is still at the gate as compared to Musk.
Methinks the likely explanation...
I posted a link in the comment right above yours.
My link is like three unsightly lines of HTML gibberish.
Your comment - Battery Recycling - has a title and no HTML at all.
How do I replace HTML with a written title?
Thanks in advance...
No he was blackmailing Musk. He’ll stop the shorting if mush starts playing ball with Gates billionaire philanthropy scam. Gates is pure trash.
The bottom line is that Musk is doing things today, in many fields, Gates hasn’t done anything noteworthy in decades and is merely a rent seeker and a trivial person. When Musk lives in a small 50k folding home at his space launch site working feverishly, Gates is hanging around with Epstein and Buffett and Oprah and Fauci and cheating on his wife.
Musk is building things, Gates is an influencer screwing with normal people. Musk wants you to have an electric car. a ride in a rocket, and free speech
Gates wants you to to eat lab-grown beef and insects.
Musk is not trying to hurt Twitter financially. He's actually making an offer that will increase the value of the company - and thus benefit stockholders.
When you read the statement: "...Sorry, I cannot take your philanthropy on climate change seriously when you have a massive short position against Tesla, the company doing the most to solve climate change..."
it is fascinating to realize how well crafted that statement is.
If Gates had shot back "You don't even believe in climate change, you denounced it as a fraud on April 5th, during a forum on space exploration!" Musk would say accurately: That has nothing to do with what I said to you. I don't believe in climate change the way you do. My point is I a cannot take your offers of climate change philanthropy serious if you are shorting the most consequential electric car manufacturer. Never mind your purchases of beachfront property."
Unfortunately, I do think Musk is onboard for climate change action (I don't know about that aspect of him) but I can't say if he really believes it or simply says he does to sell cars. He is an unusual person, to put it mildly.
That’s my take on this exchange, almost like Gates is holding the short ransom for Musk’s promise to give. There’s a word for that….
so weird, and apparently real?
musk must not be playing nice with the plutocrat club (coughing up money)
gates smallpox comment stays in my mind.
his track record suggests he is a genius.
it reads like implied extortion to me.
he may think musk cares about the short. musk asked, so maybe he does.
gates would not need to talk to musk or anyone about what to do with his own profits.
every time Gates is caught doing nefarious acts he pulls out that bogus charity bit.
The “charity” is controlled by his estate, and primarily benefits his family.
He could dispense of “charity” money any time - there are tons of starving needy homeless people all over the world....
Unfortunately that’s not all he’s on board for:
